Injectable Gonadotropins

FSH and LH injections for controlled ovarian stimulation, used in IUI and IVF protocols.

Overview

Injectable gonadotropins (Gonal-F, Follistim, Menopur) provide direct FSH and/or LH to stimulate ovarian follicle development. They are more potent than oral medications and are used for controlled ovarian stimulation in IUI and IVF cycles, or when oral medications have failed.

How It Works

Gonadotropins directly provide FSH (and sometimes LH) to the ovaries, bypassing the hypothalamic-pituitary axis. FSH stimulates ovarian follicles to grow and mature, while LH supports final follicle maturation and triggers ovulation. Close monitoring via ultrasound and blood work is essential.
