Clomiphene Citrate (Clomid)

A selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) that stimulates ovulation and is often the first-line fertility treatment.

Overview

Clomiphene Citrate is one of the most widely used fertility medications. It works by blocking estrogen receptors in the brain, tricking the body into producing more FSH and LH, which stimulates the ovaries to develop and release eggs. It is typically the first medication tried for ovulatory disorders.

How It Works

Clomiphene blocks estrogen receptors in the hypothalamus, reducing negative feedback and causing increased GnRH secretion. This leads to elevated FSH and LH production from the pituitary, stimulating ovarian follicle development and ovulation.
